Free outdoor exercise areas in Guildford

outdoor exercise

As a personal trainer in Guilford I come across many people who recognise the need and the benefits that focused one on one training sessions brings them but occasionally they have an issue to overcome.

That issue is simply that some people don’t enjoy a gymnasium environment. Now this can be for any number of reasons that are sometimes personal to the individual, but for many it is the thought of exercising with others in close proximity or being watched while they exercise.

For some it’s just a simple case that “gym aromas” are off putting or that the cost of gym membership or gym sessions are pushing their monthly budget.

A major part of the service I deliver to people as a personal trainer is to overcome barriers and obstacles and help people find the best of themselves and exercise in comfort.

Did you know that Guilford has outdoor exercise areas that are free to use? Read on.

Exercise with Freedom

Using Guilford’s outdoor gyms and recreational areas is a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors and exercise at the same time. As a fitness trainer I have studied many reports that show beyond doubt how physical activity is proven to improve health, happiness and ultimately lead to a longer life. However, if you go charging into outdoor exercise areas without a structured plan and some well researched goals, you will not benefit from the experience as much as you should and could even start yourself off with bad habits.

My goal is your health and fitness goals being met and exceeded and to ensure that those goals are met in a safe and focused manner with a bit of fun and some laughs along the way. Being a trainer means I get to enjoy many of the free exercise areas, and love to introduce my clients to them, so here are 3 of my favorites which all have different benefits in terms of equipment and location.

Where we can go

We can discuss any number of locations to meet if you have a preference but these are 3 of Guilford’s “free to use: outdoor exercise areas that for me as a personal trainer give a wide range of equipment options.

Stoke-Park-Fitness-Trail
Stoke Park Fitness Trail located in Stoke Park near the Bowling Club.

Almost everyone in Guilford will have heard of Stoke Park, as it is Guildford’s largest and most popular park as well as being an award winner. There are 52 hectares of unspoiled rolling grassland and open views across Guildford and for personal trainers who workout with our clients there is a great exercise area as well as acres of space for aerobic training.

The range of equipment includes Chin up bars, Hurdles, Incline leg raise, Ladder walk, Parallel bars, Sit up bench, Step up posts, Balance Beams and the very popular Vaults.

With these simple items alone, I can work out a program that allows you to reach our agreed goals and takes into account any limitations or restrictions on the way you need to exercise. Injury or disability does not stop you exercising, I simply use all my experience and professional knowledge as a fitness expert to work round it and keep things interesting and motivational.

Stoughton Recreation Ground, home of Guildford City Boys and Girls Football Club

A smaller park that opens from 08.00 so with a warm up jog or power walk, we can easily fit in a pre-work session. Stoughton Recreation Ground has a bit of everything and is a good place to enjoy the great outdoors.

Although the range of equipment is smaller than Stoke Park the park is still blessed with a great range of equipment items such as a Handle boat, Health walker, Mini ski equipment, Parallel bars, Pull down challenge and Push up bars, it is the Hand Boat and health walker that gives me some added options to mix up your work out and focus on some core muscles or target areas

Bushy Hill Drive , located at Bushy Hill Park

A great community park with the close by local school and a good size for lots of exercise activities if you are looking to build stamina.

A decent range of equipment which includes a Handle Boat, Health Walker, Leg Stretch, Mini Ski, Parallel Rails, Power Push, Pull Down Challenger, Push Hands, Sit up and a Ski Stepper which can really work on the legs and bum.

Working in the personal fitness industry and based in Guilford I love using local facilities and many of my clients have been surprised when I have introduced them to these and other outdoor exercise options around Guilford.

And finally

Outdoor gyms are free to use and suitable for all levels of fitness, so don’t be concerned if being in a gym is not for you and you don’t have space to exercise at home. If you are truly motivated to improve your fitness and health, I will always find a way to help and ensure that you feel comfortable with exercise.

I can put together programs that are a mixture of outdoor and gym time as well as a few home exercises while you’re doing the housework, tackling the DIY or playing with the kids. My goal as Guilfords Premier Personal trainer is your complete satisfaction.
